Who Is Behind SuiteGuides.com?
My name is Joe Hessert and I launched this website in August of 2020 as a way to share some of my thoughts, knowledge, and experience with office and productivity software, technology, and tools that I use and love (or hate) as a sole proprietor and small business owner in Maine.
As a SEO and Content Marketing manager at an international travel company servicing American travel to Europe, I had some extra time after getting furloughed in mid-March 2020 (along with almost everyone else working in the travel industry). I qualified for unemployment benefits, but decided not to take them – instead choosing to tighten my belt and go to work to support myself and my family.
I had been building my own business for a while, and the truth is that being forced out of my comfortable marketing job and left with the time to follow my passion was the best thing that ever happened to me. I tried consulting for a while, but decided that I preferred the autonomy and creativity that came with blogging. I now leverage my business and management experience, my MFA in creative writing, and the joy I take in building websites and sharing helpful content in a day job that allows me to be at home, working in a comfortable office while being a present and happy dad to two great kids.
On SuiteGuides.com I share a lot of what I’ve learned about SaaS apps, productivity office suites, and project management and collaboration tools with you, my readers. I try to do this in a pleasant, no-nonsense way that readers can take meaningful insights from and find the right solutions for their teams and work.

I have experience hiring and managing both in-person and distributed teams. As the owner of my own business, I currently work with freelancers and independent contractors on a variety of projects and tasks, including software and app development, WordPress development, SEO, SEM, CRO, Email Marketing, Social Media Marketing, Graphic Design, and more.
Right now I manage a distributed team of 15 talented writers, editors, virtual assistants, and developers across 4 continents and 7 countries.
As a stay-at-home dad my ability to delegate work and manage collaborative projects that span so many time zones is tested regularly, and I couldn’t do what I do without great people, processes, and tools.
On this blog I hope to leverage some of my experience and insight to save you some time and research.
